The Mass General Brigham Office for Global Professionals and
Scholars provides nonimmigrant visa services to almost 3,000
foreign nationals from across the world. We are committed to
supporting organizational compliance with immigration-related
regulations and operating policies.
The Advisor is responsible for immigration-related matters and
institutional compliance with federal immigration law. The advisor
will manage a caseload, prepare visa petitions and advise hospital
administrators, international faculty, and staff about regulations
set forth by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Service
(USCIS), Department of Labor (DOL), and Department of State (DOS)
that affect nonimmigrant visa holders. Responsibilities
--- Advice regarding visa selection, the visa sponsorship process,
minimum funding, travel and reentry to the U.S., maintenance of
status, program extension, SEVIS record-keeping requirements,
changes of status, transfer, reinstatement procedures,
family-dependent visas, and other special requirements/policies
--- Manage a caseload of H-1B, E-3, TN and J-1 requests from start
to finish. -
--- Maintain knowledge of current and changing regulations
affecting J, F, H, O, TN, E, and B visa classifications -
--- Exercise independent review of visa compliance matters
--- Act as Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO) to ensure
institutional and individual compliance
--- Conduct weekly orientation sessions for newly-arrived scholars
and their families
--- Assist in updating/revising informational handouts, office
policies, and procedures
--- Develop and present informational visa sessions
--- Review the generic office mailbox and respond to inquiries in a
clear correct and timely manner
--- Support process improvement initiatives, taking lead when
appropriate
--- Participate in professional development activities, including
meetings and conferences
--- Assist with other office duties as needed Qualifications
--- Bachelor's degree
--- Minimum 3 year's experience in immigration, including work with
H-1B visa sponsorship
--- Proficiency in Microsoft Office. Experience with SEVIS
preferred. -
--- U.S. Citizenship or Legal Permanent Residence status required
by federal regulations for ARO certification Skills, Abilities, and
Competencies
--- Strong communication and presentation skills, including the
ability to convey complicated information clearly, and communicate
effectively with people from other cultures
--- Ability to work independently and prioritize in a busy
office
--- Keen attention to detail
