searching for a sports instructor to lead a group of children ages
3 to 14 instructing sports classes. Classes are on weekday
afternoons and weekend mornings. Candidate must possess excellent
child/parent communication skills, expertise in a variety of sports
and the ability to work independently. POSITION SUMMARY : This
position develops, organizes and implements the following YMCA
programs: youth, teen and adult sports, preschool enrichment
classes. This position reports to the Youth and Enrichment
Director. Key Responsibilities Essential Functions: 1. Directs and
supervises program activities to meet YMCA objectives. Establishes
new program activities and expands programs within the community in
accordance with strategic and operating plans. Develops and
maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations.
2. Recruits, trains, and directs personnel and volunteers as
needed. Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops
strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals. 3. Works with Youth
and Families Director to ensure proper maintenance of gymnasium,
and all related equipment. 4. Ensures the development of a sports
program schedule seasonally with season sports calendar reflecting
in age-appropriate activities & leagues for children. 5. Works to
expand our Youth Development Initiative to serve pre-teens and
teens and manage Teen Space for maximum usage. Works with Youth &
Enrichment Director to ensure this function is met. 6. Markets and
distributes program information to YMCA members and the community.
7. Develops, coordinates and implements innovative programming for
ages beginning at 2 to adult. 8. To be seen as a leader for our Y
by engaging with families, children and other Y employees. Direct
service with delivering of classes is an essential function. 9.
Assists in YMCA fund raising activities and special events. 10.
Responds to all member and community inquiries and requests in a
timely manner. 11. Assists with program committee meetings where
appropriate. 12. Compiles program statistics. Monitors and
evaluates the effectiveness of and participation in program. 13.
Assumes a fair share of responsibilities of the administration of
the branch, including nights and weekends. Weekend involvement and
supervision is a must. PHYSICAL DEMANDS : While performing the
duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand;
walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or
controls; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to
sit and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally
lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities
required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the

of the impact of change. Utilizes non-threatening methods to
address sensitive issues and inappropriate behavior or performance.
Has the functional and technical knowledge and skills required to
perform well; uses best practices and demonstrates up-to-date
knowledge and skills in technology. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE :
Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent; working towards
obtaining degree in recreation or health related field. One to two
years related experience preferred; for example, as an sports coach
or volunteer. Typical requirements within 30 days of hire include:
completion of: Child Abuse Prevention for Supervisory Staff;
Working with Program Volunteers; CPR; First Aid; AED; Bloodborne
Pathogens, commercial driver’s license. SKILLS AND
COMPETENCIES/KNOW HOW : ¨ Excellent public relations and conflict
resolution skills in order to facilitate positive relationships
with parents, staff, children, and outside agencies. ¨ Have a
concern for detail and accuracy and have the ability to delegate
responsibility. Qualities needed for this position: Energetic,
motivated and well organized individual who has a passion for
