Who We Are Political Research AssociatesPolitical Research
Associates (PRA) is a national nonprofit devoted to supporting
movements that are building a more just and inclusive democratic
society. We provide research, strategy, and briefings to expose
movements, institutions, and ideologies that undermine human
rights. PRA publishes The Public Eye magazine quarterly. The PRA
staff union is a unit of the Washington-Baltimore News Guild, Local
32035 of C.W.A. Our office is located in Somerville,
Massachusetts.Who You Are Accounting ManagerThe Accounting Manager
is responsible for general ledger management including account
reconciliation, cash receipts and accounts receivable processing,
revenue and expense accruals, investment accounting, tracking and
release of donor-restricted funds, grants revenue recognition, and
the timely and accurate monthly closing cycle under the supervision
of the Director of Finance. Candidates should have excellent
understanding of accounting rules, internal controls, and
procedures, including Generally Accepted Accounting Principles
(GAAP); ability to work independently and meet deadlines; advanced
spreadsheet skills; and five+ years of experience in accounting at
nonprofit organizations.Duties And Responsibilities* Record
financial transactions including, but not limited to payroll,
billing, receivables, payables, cash receipts, cash disbursements,
and general ledger transactions using QuickBooks software,
spreadsheets and other tools to track and manage data;* Maintain
internal controls and safeguards for receipt of revenue, assets,
expenditures, and program budgets;* Maintain financial record
keeping systems;* Ensure that all balance sheet general ledger
accounts are reconciled to subsidiary records monthly and record
related monthly closing entries;* Reconcile monthly bank,
investment, and credit card statements;* Prepare bi-weekly payroll
and maintain accurate and complete payroll records for all staff
and 1099 contractors. Ensure that all payroll related accounts are
reconciled quarterly to federal form 941;* Prepare monthly
financial reports by program and function and work collaboratively
with department directors to resolve variances, and missing or
inaccurate information;* Supervise the work of accounting and/or
bookkeeping support;* Review and process employee expense
reimbursements;* Monitor and follow-up on receivables that have
exceeded their expected collection dates;* Prepare cost-benefit
assessments, analyze expense trends, and make budget
recommendations.* Prepare schedules and coordinate the collection
of data from co-workers and external stakeholders to ensure the
timely completion of the annual audit and informational returns;*
Partner with members of the Development team to enhance and better
integrate the development function with the accounting function
including, but not limited to the monthly reconciliation of the
donor database to QuickBooks and the timely recording of grant
awards, and preparation of grant reports;* Partner with members of
the HR & Operations team to enhance and better integrate the HR
function with payroll and accounting;* Assess and recommend to the
Director of Finance options for the use of technology to improve
workflow, staff convenience, and internal controls; and,* Support
the Director of Finance in preparing financial information for
Board, Finance Committee, and staff meetings.RequirementsThe ideal
candidate would have most or all of the following* Excellent
understanding of accounting rules, internal controls, and
procedures including Generally Accepted Accounting Principles
(GAAP) especially as they apply to nonprofit organizations and
revenue recognition for grants;* At least five years of experience
in accounting at nonprofit organizations;* Ability to multitask,
prioritize, work under pressure and meet deadlines;* Ability to
work independently;* Attention to detail and accuracy;* Advanced
knowledge and experience of spreadsheets;* Strong analytical
skills;* Great interpersonal and customer-service skills; and,* A
Bachelor's degree or equivalent training in accounting, business
administration, or related field.BenefitsPRA's compensation package

to professional developmentThis is a full-time salaried position
($55k-$57,000) with fabulous colleagues and a collaborative working
environment. Applicants would preferably be available to work from
Somerville, MA headquarters (currently closed due to pandemic
precautions), however applicants interested in working remotely
