We are currently searching for a Director, Enterprise Architecture Strategy & Engineering Enablement. This successful leader will be a trailblazer, passionate about change and seeks to shape the future of modern enterprise architecture in GRM-US. In this position, you will be a member of the architecture leadership team that sets the architecture direction and the development of the engineering enablement that will transform our platform that supports 13+ million customers, 40,000+ agents, and 20,000+ employees. About the role:

  • Leads the creation and integration of our architecture strategy with our Enterprise Architecture operating model across GRM US.
  • Leads the architecture enablement engineering team within our operating model in collaboration with the engineering community to develop the "opinionated & supported" path to building technical platform components and blueprints based on enterprise architecture strategies, standards, and roadmaps. (i.e., The Golden Path)
  • Pioneer the concept of the product mindset and methodology in modern enterprise architecture, ensuring that we stablish ourselves as a strategic partner, that takes a data driven approach in the establishment of intentional and emergent architecture backlogs.
  • Hires and manages engineering managers as well as individual contributors such as Solution Architects, Technical Product Owners, and Scrum Masters. Coaches and counsels team members. Determines and manages staffing strategy and plan (capacity vs demand of staff, skills needed, depth of experience, internal and external staffing mix) consistent with the needs of the department. Ensures decisions related to hiring, firing and promotions are executed.
  • Defines individual performance objectives and development plans and ensures alignment with architecture and engineering enablement objectives.
  • Appraises and evaluates department and individual performance and makes compensation recommendations; oversees the appraisal process.
  • Initiates and fosters business partnerships with current and potential clients, vendors, IT executives, and senior business executives; develops relationships that promote trust and increase efficiency and effectiveness; balances individual client needs with business priorities assuring alignment with the business strategies and objectives.
  • Establishes financial plan for department and manages to plan; ensures financial plans are met by managers in department. Jointly establishes financial targets with business & technology partners.
  • Formulates and executes process and organizational improvement within a new emerging modern enterprise architecture operating model which enhance overall effectiveness; proactively seeks ways to improve understanding, definition, and management of architecture & engineering enablement backlogs. Understands business process, issues/problems and applies appropriate IT standards and solutions.
  • Develops and maintains a network of industry contacts; performs or directs research on industry trends, competitors, business, and IT products; analyzes trends and makes strategic and tactical recommendations.
  • Ensures system, technical and product architectures are aligned with business objectives.
    • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in a technical discipline or related experience; Master's Degree preferred.
    • Generally, more than 10 years related experience with 5 years in leadership role.
    • Provided strategic technology direction and architecture vision encompassing an enterprise view across a large portfolio of capabilities
    • Ability to translate short and long-range strategic plans for enterprise-wide architecture into design and implementation of current and future applications and systems
    • Extensive experience in high level systems planning, design, development, maintenance and troubleshooting with a track record of accomplishment in large, complex, mainframe and client/server-based systems.
    • In-depth knowledge of the insurance business. Highly developed negotiation, facilitation and influencing skills.
    • Excellent communication skills to both technical and non-technical audiences
    • Significant breadth and depth of technologies in the areas of: Cloud solutions and deployments, preferable AWS and Azure; Services patterns, application containers, and API gateway management capabilities
    • Broad experience across all areas of large scale, enterprise technology platforms
    • Proven experience migrating legacy applications to the public cloud
    • Strong financial acumen and understanding of IT Total Cost of Ownership
    • Industry contacts in the software development and open-source communities
    • Experience with Agile & DevOps methodologies, tools, and measurement practices.
