The Role:
Generate is seeking a highly creative and technologically curious Principal Scientist/Associate Director in Quantitative HTP Experimentation to be part of the Platform Innovation Team. The successful candidate will oversee the design and analysis of truly novel assays at the intersection of synthetic biology, microfluidics, automation, and Machine Learning, enabling high-throughput data generation and interpretation throughout the company. He/she has a proven track record of cross-disciplinary quantitative research, combining deep understanding of biology and high-throughput experimentation with meaningful theoretical/statistical analysis and visualization. The successful candidate will also play a key role in setting up our DNA Read/Write Team and therefore has a solid understanding and experience with NGS-based methodologies. Close collaboration with members of Generate's Protein Science, Preclinical Discovery, Computational, and Machine Learning teams will be crucial to produce game-changing new biological datasets. This is an opportunity to perform highly innovative technology development with considerable intellectual freedom, while being part of the collaborative and premier scientific environment of a well-funded biotech startup.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Oversee the development of state-of-the art high-throughput experimental workflows to characterize biophysical and biological properties of proteins.
Optimize experimental design based on theoretical analysis, statistics, and modeling.
Work together with members of the Platform Innovation team and other teams to integrate micro-automation, microfluidics, and microfabricated devices into the company's major workflows.
Play a leading role in creating Generate's DNA Read/Write Team for NGS tech dev and library design.
Generate bold, creative, unconventional ideas, and be our team's point person for intellectual property and patent writing.
Oversee, mentor, and train junior scientists throughout the company. Qualifications: BSc/MSc with 10+ years or PhD+6 years of experience in a relevant science/engineering field (physics, biophysics, physical chemistry, biological engineering, quantitative/synthetic biology, or related discipline).
Demonstrated expertise in implementation, analysis, and optimization of high-throughput biological assays.
Demonstrated experience in high-throughput library design and NGS-based assay readouts.
Experience with data analysis in Python, Matlab, R or equivalent.
Have a solid quantitative mindset, a strong scientific intuition, and a demonstrated ability to execute applied biology projects.
Experience securing intellectual property rights and patents is a plus.
Cross-functional experience in the protein therapeutic industry is highly desired.
Self-motivated and curious with a desire to learn from and teach others.
