OBJECTIVES:
This is a dual discipline role. The candidate will lead efforts to
optimize innate immunotherapies by overseeing gdT cell skin and
blood cross-platform optimization through developing novel
signaling and engineering approaches, as well as, have RMC
sponsorship for broader enterprise exposure and contribution,
achieving growing visibility in the organization and unlocking
exciting development opportunities
ACCOUNTABILITIES:
In capacity as Cell Therapy Innovation Leader :
Reports to the Head, Oncology Cell Therapy Innovation with
management responsibility for a team of scientists in the Cell
Therapy Innovation department Leads efforts to optimize innate
immunotherapies through developing novel signaling and engineering
approaches to enhance cell functions based on the needs of specific
diseases, including but not limited to, cell expansion, innate
killing and differentiation between healthy and cancer cells Lead
Discovery work to achieve research PoC Guide the non-clinical
research work for achieving multiple milestones to IND Follow these
innovative new programs at least up to clinical proof-of-concept
Oversee gdT cell skin and blood cross-platform optimization and
comparison to drive key decisions Lead early-stage Discovery and
exploratory work to build the foundation of next-generation cell
therapies (examples such as: mixtures of NK and T cells,
combinations of cell therapies and other modalities such as cell
engagers or innate immune agonists, non-clinical model development
for novel preconditioning, iPSC derived vd1 gdT cells, etc.)
Participate in Takeda governance and decision-making forums such as
Cell Therapy Council, PRC, and other senior leadership interfaces
Over time, select 1-2 clinical development teams in which to embed
as an innate immunity effort helping guide overall strategy (can
include programs outside cell therapies at any stage of
development) Serve on the Steering Committee for the MSKCC
partnership; potential to take on additional JSC / Board roles over
time Co-lead Takeda's academic partnership with external leaders
Adrian Hayday and Bruno De Santos Silva Serve as an advisor on
Takeda's Cold-to-Hot Development Hub and / or Redirected Immunity
Development Hub
In capacity as Distinguished R&D Fellow:
This role is sponsored at RMC level by the Head of the OTAU Work
with Head of R&D and Head of OTAU and other Senior Leaders to
identify areas of broader enterprise exposure and contribution
achieving professional growth, visibility, and impact in the
broader Takeda organization to unlock impactful enterprise level
development opportunities Exposure to Takeda senior leaders through
Fellow program Contribute to innovative entrepreneurial models and
business development (for example, venture investments, spin outs,
etc.) Contribute to Immunology strategies in other emerging areas
of interest to Takeda (e.g. GI franchise) Champion or contribute to
a Takeda enterprise-level initiative Gain exposure to global
efforts, sites, and talents
Strategic Planning and Execution
Leads the innate immunotherapies strategies, goals, priorities and
long-term plans and schedules. Aligns cross-functional,
cross-divisional project goals with Takeda business needs and
strategies. Provides strategic, process, and operational leadership
to the innate immunotherapies in the successful delivery of
projects. Projects at this level will be of medium complexity and
moderate project risk in disease areas with defined regulatory
paths across all phases of development. Links division sub-teams,
through Divisional leaders/project management functions to align
activities and ensure transparency of all project/product-related
activity Supports TA Leaders and Sub-leaders to set the vision and
direction for innate immunotherapies and prioritizes all aspects of
projects Reports on progress of projects, issues/plans, and
critical path schedules to Head, Oncology Cell Therapy Innovation,
TAU Head and Takeda executive management through internal or
external reviews of programs or projects. Visibly advocates and
supports key business initiatives: Evaluates new opportunities and
provides overall support for feasibility studies
Fiscal Responsibility
Responsible for project operating budgets within the global
program; monitor and control expenditures; manages variance between
budgeted and actual expenditures of time, dollars, and personnel
while meeting overall Takeda financial objectives.
Resource and Issue Management
M anages internal and external resources (people, information,
technologies, time, and capital); allocates resources appropriately
Proactively identifies innate immunotherapies project issues before
they arise and develops contingency plans; communicates
project-related issues to senior executive management and manages
issues to resolution.
Change Management
Proactively responds to the dynamics of a changing marketplace;
directs adjustments in functional or cross-divisional plans in
response to changes in strategic direction. Contributes to the
creation and maintenance of systems/databases for the purpose of
tracking key performance indicators (KPIs), trending, learning, and
improving decisions regarding program performance and
continuance.
Matrix Team Management
Provides matrix management, strategic and tactical leadership to
members who are responsible for leading the key deliverables or
Divisional sub-teams within individual projects.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
Education/Experience:
Advanced scientific degree (MD, or PhD, or PharmD) in Immunology,
Cell Biology) Experience with and knowledge of Gamma Delta cells
strongly preferred Extensive experience and expertise in techniques
such as cell culture, flow Cytometry, cytotoxicity assays,
cell-based functional assays and immunoassays Experience with IP
and patent filing Extensive experience in the pharmaceutical
industry, with working knowledge of research and development and
commercial operations Experience with interdisciplinary global
experience with complex projects including strategy and execution
and matrix team management Experience with matrix team management
in a global environment
Preferred:
Advanced degree in science or business is desired Broad
business/enterprise orientation is highly preferred Managed
multiple NME global approvals
Knowledge and Skills:
Multi-faceted background with direct involvement or experience
working with functions from multiple divisions: Research,
Development, CMCC, Commercial/Marketing, Global Licensing and
Business Development (GLBD) Expert knowledge in the overall
pharmaceutical drug development process, from discovery through
post-marketing Demonstrated ability to build consensus and drive
resolution of issues while maintaining positive working
relationships across functions, negotiation and strong persuasive
abilities Strong written and verbal Communication Skills: ability
to express oneself clearly and concisely to external partners,
vendors or with others within the team; ability to message key
issues appropriately and document issues and/or concerns concisely
and comprehensively; ability to adjust language and/or terminology
appropriate for the audience; Demonstrated ability to clearly and
concisely communicate/present key information to senior management
Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills: ability to identify the
critical issues of problems or opportunities using appropriate
information; determines the causes and possible solutions to the
problem Leadership Skills: develops and uses knowledge and
interpersonal skills to influence and guide others towards the
accomplishment of Takeda's goals and objectives. Requires the
flexibility and tolerance to best manage change and differing
opinions with diplomacy and competence Ability to drive

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:
Willingness to travel to various meetings or client sites,
including overnight trips. Some international travel may be
required. Requires approximately 20-25% travel.
