The Registration Services Representative ensures the accuracy of patient registration in various applications including Epic; verifies that all charges are appropriately billed to insurance; and corrects any registration or billing problems on all accounts assessed. The registrar utilizes multiple registration and eligibility systems, as well as knowledge of medical billing and customer service expertise to resolve patient account registration issues and to maximize professional fee collections. This position is relied upon to work on any activity within the team with minimal direct supervision. The registrar demonstrates a service orientation which consistently aims at exceeding client expectations and which contributes positively to the greater working environment.Principal Duties and Responsibilities Achieve excellence in performance by working collaboratively with others on MGH, BW and Professional Billing Office initiatives.Supports and demonstrates the values of Massachusetts General Brigham by conducting activities in an ethical manner with integrity, honesty, and confidentiality. Account ManagementPerform all aspects of the Registration Services Representative position at a consistently high degree of proficiency. This entails a complete understanding of all departmental policies and procedures to execute all registration tasks with minimal direct supervision. This representative is expected to be a leader within the team in productivity, teamwork, efficiency, communication and patient care. Act with minimal supervision, notice or direction to identify and resolve problems and complete work. Assist Team Manager with training, orientation and coaching of new staff. Function as the "go to" person within the team for patient account issues.Effectively handle and resolve complex registration and insurance issues. Utilize registration experience and expertise to efficiently and effectively determine the correct course of action on each account/project. Problem-solve difficult registration situations such as coordination of benefits issues.Provide quality cross-coverage for absences, stepping in as designated on any Registration Team. This representative must possess a mastery of all Registration tasks.Represent the department in meetings with other PSC or hospital departments. Assist Team Manager with facilitating team meetings and documenting minutes as needed.Communicate with Team Manager and other PSC departments regarding issues related to the accuracy of patient registration, billing, and the maximization of reimbursement. Collaborate with other PSC personnel to reconcile registration issues.Meet deadlines and productivity standards for the most sensitive and complex Epic work queues, projects and accounts. Provide immediate feedback to Team Manager on changes or modifications necessary to maximize efficiency of workflow. Request necessary data to resolve issues and trends once identified and follow through on resolutions to completion.Participate in continuous quality improvement efforts on an ongoing basis. Establish goals with Team Manager and track progress. Demonstrate initiative and resourcefulness by making recommendations and communicating trends and issues to Team Manager. Exhibit motivation, energy, focus, and consistently produce output of sufficient volume. Produce work that meets unit quality standards within deadlines by budgeting time well. Performs job functions with speed, accuracy and versatility with minimal supervision. Reach correct conclusions through sound reasoning and weighing of consequences. Recognize when supervisory intervention is appropriate and/or necessary for problem resolution. Utilize electronic organizational tools such as Outlook notes and tasks, Excel, Epic, and copy frequently used references to computer desktop such as Billing Manager, Third Party and Registration lists.Manage and track progress of special projects and other tasks as assigned. Qualifications QualificationsHigh School diploma or GED equivalent required2 years relevant experience in registration or professional billing required2 years in customer service or healthcare setting requiredPossess strong knowledge and experience of all Registration Control Specialist tasks and responsibilitiesSkills/Abilities/CompetenciesExcellence in customer service skillsEffective communication and interpersonal skills to successfully interact with internal and external customersEffective organizational and problem solving skillsAbility to manage multiples tasks and projects simultaneouslyDemonstrated proficiency with a variety of automations, including but not limited to EpicKnowledge of medical billing, insurance rules and regulations required.
