Job Description:
CHA recently achieved a milestone with our psychiatry expansion,
admitting the first patients to our new Neuropsychiatry inpatient
unit. This innovative service is for children 3-17 with a primary
diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder, intellectual disability,
and/or a related neurodevelopmental disorder who are experiencing
serious behavioral and/or mental health challenges. Once fully
staffed, the unit will have 24 beds, with younger and older
children segmented for optimal care.
Recognition of neurodevelopmental disorder diagnoses has increased
in the past decade, and there are few facilities in MA able to
provide the specialized care this population needs. Thus, our
service will fill a vital gap in care - helping patients develop
adaptive skills that will let them be successful in the community
while providing support for families. It also minimizes the number
of patients who would otherwise be admitted into the general
psychiatric population.
